Bayliss Boatworks new construction update: Bayliss 72'

by John Bayliss 3 Nov 2019 18:47 UTC

The "whiskey plank" is a benchmark in the build process that we always look forward to around here.

Traditionally and historically, once the final board is fastened to complete the hull planking process, a celebration would take place. In our hull shop, we just go back to work- but we always take a team photo, and everyone always signs the last plank.

In October, Bayliss 72' rounded the corner on this benchmark and our hull carpentry crew continued to hit the ground running.

With the planking complete and the hull sanded smooth, the carpentry crew prepared and shaped the shear line for the teak boards which were installed in October. Once the shear boards were installed, the crew built and shaped the spray rails, glassing the area where they would be mounted. On the transom, the zinc compartment was cut and glassed.

Once the spray rails are installed, the hull will be ready for glassing and fairing. Bayliss 72' is slated to flip before the year's end!

Across the street from the hull shop, Bayliss 72's cabin is nearly ready to be transported outside to cure. The bridge to cockpit access was cut from the bridge deck and the console and benchseats are faired and nearly ready for primer.
