Trident Yorkshire Youth Travellers at Halifax Sailing Club

by Adrienne Benson 25 Jun 2002 08:39 UTC

The penultimate event of this hugely successful series took place on Saturday 22nd June in typical Fly Flat conditions - windy! The excellent turn out of 33 entries was dominated by the Toppers who outnumbered all the other classes put together. For some this was a tactical move with established Laser sailors reverting to their old class having seen the forecast. Hardened Radial sailors also changed down to 4.7s for the day. Race 1 was won on handicap by Jenny Lewis (4.7) followed by Ben Lister and Ceri Shave (Laser 2000) and Andy Tunnicliffe (Topper). However the increasing wind favoured the heavyweights and Skylar Paulich (Laser) thundered through the fleet to take a huge lead in race 2 from Lister and Greg Liggins (Laser). The scorers were unable to separate Paulich and Lister in race 3 so they shared joint honours. James Lewis (4.7) was third.
