Remembering our ANZAC Day Heroes

by Alvey Reels 25 Apr 06:58 UTC
Remembrance Day

Today we reflect and pay tribute to those who dedicated themselves to protecting Australia and New Zealand through the lowest periods of the 20th Century.

The peace and prosperity we all enjoy did not occur by accident.

The brave ANZACs who fought to protect us and our way of life in 1915, many of whom did not return home, provided us with the opportunity to blossom into the society we are today.

They may have passed long ago, but our heroes live on through their lineage and the lessons they passed on to the next generations.

Alvey and Gowings encourage us all to take a moment to show gratitude for the soldiers and service men and women who risked everything.

During the 20th Century, both Gowings and Alvey experienced the effects of devastating wars on families, staff, business and the livelihoods of all Australians and New Zealanders.

Gowings was established before Australia federated and continued trading through both world wars. Ted Gowing bravely served during WWII as a pilot in the Royal Australian Air Force.

Charles Alvey may never have been in a position to produce the first sidecast reel in 1920 if the Great War took a different turn.

Recognising this, Charles committed to doing everything possible to help if war ever returned.

And we all know it did.

In World War II, the Alvey Factory was converted to produce components for weapons desperately needed by the allies. We also had several staff members leave to serve on the front lines.

If it wasn't for the bravery of our soldiers during WWI, we would never have been in a position to help during WWII.

The ANZAC's spent nearly eight brutal months protecting our way of life in atrocious conditions. For most, it was their first combat experience, and many never returned.

While today we officially recognise their contributions, every day we are afforded the benefits.

Lest we forget.

The Alvey & Gowings Team.
