Llandegfedd Sailing Club Mid-Summer Pursuit

by Mark Williams 24 Jun 2023 06:19 UTC 21 June 2023

Thirty boats, ranging in performance from Toppers to 29ers and with crew ages ranging from 12 to 70, took part in the annual race on 21st June. The race was sponsored by the nearby Carpenters Arms hostelry which is the favoured haunt of hungry and thirsty sailors.

The personal handicaps were derived from previous results by Chris Smith, and crews discovered their start time just before the race. The warm breeze obliged with a decent southerly and the large course made the most of the lake. Llandegfedd is deep and not troubled by weed, despite the prolonged dry and warm weather, so crews couldn't use that as an excuse!

The starts were spread over 25 minutes but the early starters made good progress around the course and the first Topper was completing the lap just as the last boat started.

There was close racing throughout the fleet but the Feva, skilfully piloted by Eliska van der Veen and Zoe Morley, held off the chasing pack to take a well deserved win when the finish gun sounded.

Overall Results: (top ten)

1 Eliska van der Veen/Zoe Morley, RS Feva
2 Shaun Jones, RS Aero 7
3 Clay Sanderson - Wood, Topper
4 Phil Hewitt, Supernova
5 Joanne Harris, Topper
6 George Sims, Topper
7 Baz Sanderson - Wood/Dan Powell, RS Feva
8 James Howells, Finn
9 Alex Collett, Solo
10 Owen Harris, Laser
