The Sportfishing Conservancy was proud to present Gus Blakely and the Suzuki team our Inaugural Marine Impact Award for their outboard engine micro plastic filter.
Empowering real world conservation: Thanks to a host of environmental organizations the world has been made aware of the wide presence of dangerous micro plastics in our marine waters. Suzuki is doing something to change this!
Think about it - all current attempts to address marine plastic pollution work on cutting the amount of plastic newly introduced into the ocean. The prevailing strategy relies on putting less in but has done nothing to cut down the volume of plastic already there. Instead of simply lessening the amount of new plastic being introduced into our oceans, Suzuki Marine USA has taken the seminal step actually taking plastic out! They have accomplished this with the introduction of a marine micro plastic filter on their most popular outboard motors. The filter is designed to strain engine-cooling water and extract micro plastic particles before discharge.
The Sportfishing Conservancy presented Suzuki and MVP Gus Blakely our Inaugural Marine Impact Award for this visionary approach to reducing ocean pollution. They have taken the first real stab at reducing the ambient plastic already suspended in the ocean and in doing so have provided a clear model for others to follow. The Sportfishing Conservancy is proud to award the Suzuki team a well-deserved award.
