Sailors of classic and vintage boats designed more than 50 years ago are to gather at Clywedog Sailing Club in North Wales this month.

The only condition for participating in the annual celebration of sail is that the class of boat must have been designed before 1965 and built before 1985 to qualify for the weekend of friendly rivalry on July 9-10.

Clywedog Sailing Club are hosting the weekend along with the Classic and Vintage Racing Dinghy Association, with catering, caravan and camping facilities at the venue.

"The ethos of the CVRDA is simple," explained organiser Keith Rollinson. "The class must have been designed before 1965, and built before 1985 to qualify.

"GRP is as welcome as wood and most of the boats have the sort of finish associated with boats which get used regularly, rather than dusted once a month.

"As 1965 is a key date for the association, it was decided to use Yardsticks from then. "We are looking at keeping cost down to around £20.00 (helm & crew) for entry/camping all in for the weekend. Camping/caravan extra nights £3.00 per person a night. "The provision programme of events is to start on Saturday with arrivals and practice sailing, with the main races on Sunday."
