IFDS Blind Sailing Worlds at Seabornia Yacht Club, Japan - Day 1

by Lucy Hodges 26 May 2013 21:09 UTC 25 May - 1 June 2013

Team GBR got off to a solid start at the IFDS Blind World and International Fleet Racing Championships at Seabornia Yacht Club in Japan.

A great first day for Team GBR with the first four races of a scheduled fifteen race series taking place in a building breeze from an initial four to six knots in the first race of the day to ten to twelve knots in race four.

Results before protests sees the B1 team skippered by Sharon Grennan lying in second place, a single point behind behind Japan A. B2 skipper Lucy Hodges posted 3 straight firsts after a disappointing opening race finishing fifth to lead the class by two points ahead of NZ. In the B3 fleet Liam Cattermole stands in second place with twelve points behind an impressive NZ with five points.

Whilst it is early days yet, the overall team position looks healthy for Team GBR with 30 points leading team New Zealand with 33 and Japan A with 37.

The forecast for Monday is for similar conditions and should see a further four races, with the race Committee aiming to gain another race ahead of schedule in anticipation of strong winds later in the week.
