Monklands hosted the Flying Fifteen Scottish Championship on September 20/21. This was the final Worlds Qualifier event of the year, so teams from all over Britain came, hoping to clinch a precious place for the Melbourne FF Worlds in January 2009. For Monklands, this regatta celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the club, which has enjoyed a long association with the FF class. The Championship was sponsored by Commsworld and Old Pulteney.

Competitors enjoyed a pair of races on both days in moderate breezes with plenty of late summer sunshine on the Sunday. In the open fleet, Steve Goacher and Phil Evans dominated, taking three wins to take the title. Pushing them the hardest was David McKee and Chris Hewkin, who took a trio of second places, then won the final race. Adrian Tattersall and Tim Smart took third place on the tie break, their second place in the final race making the difference.

There were Scottish winners in the Silver and Classic fleets. Graham Galbraith and Ross McNish took the Old Pulteney prize for the Silvers, while John McMillan and Stan Wichlaj compiled a perfect score of four wins in their near 50 year old FF, Gilmac, to win the Classic Cup. Best home club boat in the Classics, John McCrohon and Stuart Cochrane earned the Monklands 25th Anniversary Cup.
