Tay Yacht Clubs Association Tay Week

by Marjory Knowles 28 Jun 2004 22:30 UTC 21st. -25th. June.

Twenty two boats took part in the evening series of this year's Tay Week, which saw a new four race series for dinghies and the continuation of the eight race series for the Squib Class. Wednesday evenings racing was postponed due to the high winds but was resailed on Friday before the prizegiving.

Racing took place in varying conditions for the average lap racing which gave good, close racing in both classes. The Hurricane 5.9 ,Hamish Ramsay and Stuart Buchanan dominated the dinghy class with three wins out of four while Hugh Scott and Ian Hunter with five firsts led the Squibs.

Alan Ferguson of Perth Sailing club who has taken part in more than thirty Lawson cups was invited to start the race. A light westerly which died away just as the race finished made for an enjoyable evenings racing with the Hurricane 5.9 first followed by four Squibs. A new trophy for endurance was presented by Rossleigh Landrover Cupar to young Stanley Buckman who sailed consistently and presevered in a Laser Radial for the first time in all comditions although never amongst the winners. The prizes were presented by Chris Woolridge of Rossleigh Landrover Cupar.
