Focus Power 33 breaks the mould - Global launch at SCIBS 2019

by Focus Motoryachts 11 Apr 2019 06:12 UTC 24-26 May 2019

The global debut of the STEYR Motors powered Focus Power 33 will be held at the 2019 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, 24 to 26 May.

The brightest newcomer to Australian shores for a decade, the 10m Focus Power 33 will captivate and impress local boaties looking for a true world-class sports cruiser with an array of features you'd find on a motor yacht double its size!

Sleek, stylish and spacious, the Focus Power 33 was designed by esteemed UK naval architect, Tony Castro and is the next incarnation of the model that won 2015 Boat of the Year Europe.

Based in Holland and with production facilities in Croatia, Focus Motor Yachts pride themselves on "building motor yachts using only the best materials and construction techniques to impart a strong sense of quality and longevity".

McIntyre Equipment is the exclusive importer and service support for Focus, in collaboration with Swan Super Lines as Queensland dealer.

Director, Rob McIntyre said he is ecstatic with the first of the new Focus Power 33 models to make its way 'downunder' and is confident it will hit a chord with Aussie boaties.

"I've spent a decade researching the global sports cruiser market, looking for a stand-out, all-rounder that would accommodate our STEYR engines and bring a new level of quality and performance to this segment," explains Rob.

"Many other boats over the years have tried to fill that niche, but they've had a square, unsophisticated look.

"The Focus Power 33 breaks the mould! It's versatile, generously sized, boasting two private, double-berth cabins with two doors and a 2-way bathroom. Owners and guests can sleep in comfort in proper beds. There is full standing height in both cabins and there's plenty of storage, which is remarkable for a 33ft boat."

The design and format of the Focus Power 33 will suit the Australian boating lifestyle with several areas onboard for people to enjoy during their time onboard, including the spacious cockpit with table, lounge seating on both sides, fridge, sink and cupboards, plus sunpads on the foredeck.

Other features include centre transom door for ease of access and safety, full walkaround decks, sunroof above the dual helm station and extended swim platform.

The central steering position is unique to Focus, allowing unrivalled visibility.

"The slightly raised helm station means you can lower a foot platform and put your head through the roof, sporty style," said Rob. "The soft retractable roof can be pulled back for a full sunroof. It's very versatile!"

In addition to being at home on the Broadwater, Moreton Bay, Sydney Harbour or Port Phillip Bay, the Focus 33 steps above the rest in its offshore capabilities with deep-vee hull for superior seakeeping for those transits between Brisbane and the Fraser coast or Sydney to Pittwater in less than perfect weather.

In terms of power, the boat is fitted with twin STEYR Motors 266S36, 260hp engines, which is an upgrade from the boat's standard 220Hp engines. It can also accommodate the smaller 230Hp or larger 280Hp motors in the same envelope.

"The 266 engines take the boat from 33 knots to around 37 knots," said Rob. "It certainly gives the boat more legs as you can comfortably cruise at 30 knots, meaning a more economical fuel consumption and longer range.

"As a stern drive boat, the Focus Power 33 performs 25 percent better than a shaft driven equivalent, maintenance can be greatly reduced and because its size, allows for storage on an air-dock or dry stack storage when it's not in use."

Rob's main aim for the Focus Power 33 is to raise awareness of the superior STEYR Motors range, while bringing a refreshing new product to the Australian boating public.

"Our aim is to expand our recreational market, showcasing the benefits of the STEYR engine and introduce this amazing sports cruiser, with all the support of a reliable national service network."

In the marine sector, STEYR Motors produces a narrow band of engines from 80 to 292hp and draws on decades of expertise working as a preferred supplier of the Australian defence forces, providing engines for the hard-working Navy coastal patrol boats.

In 2019, STEYR Motors will supply engines for 1,100 Armoured Vehicles for the Australian Army, an engine that is based on the core engine inside the Focus Power 33.

Yet another unique feature, which conveys the superior quality of the Focus brand, is the bespoke build process which involves manual hand lamination over vacuum infusion or chop strand mat.

"Consistency of chop strand lamination can be varied, but with hand lamination, the glass wovings are hand cut by fastidious team of ladies to set patterns. These ladies are selected on their skills, repeating the process to the same standard for every vessel," says Rob.

"Hand lamination allows greater quality control over areas such as air entrapment and other imperfections within the laminate, which is crucial in the prevention of osmosis and the avoidance of structural de-lamination."

Ian Swan, Director at Swan Super Lines said the new Focus Power 33 would "stand alone in what is a crowd-pleasing, but under-populated segment".

"It has been a long time since a compelling, true hard-top sports cruiser such as the Focus Power 33 was available in Australia. We believe it will tick all the boxes with many different kinds of boaties from families and people new to boating, to Baby Boomers looking to downsize (and upgrade) and sailing couples seeking a compact, economical motor yacht with plenty of room and European flair."

The Focus Power 33 is poised to make it Australian debut at the 2019 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, 23 to 26 May.

Packed with options and extras, including Simrad navigation equipment, the first model will be priced at a Boat Show Special of $499,000.
