Win over land and sea issues

   Hi Guys
I ve been reading up about Wind behaviour. I am horribly confused about why the wind veers as it moves out over the sea - OK so there is the issue of friction variance between the land and sea but why does that cause it to change direction?

does anyone have a nice early learning centre explanation?
