Western Port to get better boating facilities for snapper season
by Ken Smith MP on 22 Nov 2012
Anglers will get better access to popular fishing spots on the eastern side of Western Port following upgrades to boat launching facilities at Corinella.
Member for Bass Ken Smith said years of exposure to the elements had deteriorated the ladders and supporting beams and fenders on the jetties surrounding the Corinella boat ramp, which is an important access point for fishers targeting the eastern side of Western Port.
'Two new fish cleaning tables will also be installed over the coming year to complement the upgrades to the jetties,' Ken Smith said.
'This project has been made possible thanks to the hard work of the Corinella Foreshore Committee of Management and funding from the Victorian Government’s Recreational Fishing Initiative.'
Western Port is located only an hour’s drive from Melbourne and provides a wide variety of fishing opportunities including snapper, whiting, gummy shark, flathead, garfish and the unique elephant fish.
'The improvements to facilities at Corinella will benefit many of the 721,000 Victorians who fish annually and ensure Western Port remains a top fishing destination,' Ken Smith said.
