With the release of 1 200 adult brown trout, Tooms Lake in Tasmania is now primed and ready for the 2017-18 inland fishing season. Recently, the Inland Fisheries Service released 1 200 brown trout between 600-900 grams into Tooms Lake. With the lake level on the rise this water is looking great. These young healthy fish should quickly put on weight.

An inspection of the inflowing creek saw only few fish spawning. Flows were low and the majority of the run is a few weeks away. This should allow the transferred fish time to move into the creek and supplement the spawning run. Tooms Lake fished well at the start of last season and conditions are looking similar. This water may well be worth a visit. Other waters to receive fish transferred from the Great Lake and Authurs Lake plus private fisheries were Four Springs and other well-known lakes such as Penstock and Lake Crescent.

Last week, the Service stocked a further 152 adult brown into Lake Crescent and 150 into Penstock Lagoon. The target for Lake Crescent is 4000 of which 2707 have been moved already. The target for Penstock is also 4000 of which 2788 have already been stocked in. The fish have averaged between 600 grams and 1kg. With good water levels this should provide good early season fishing.
