Better launching facilities improve Lake Hindmarsh fishing opportunity
by DPI Victoria on 16 Dec 2012
Improved boat launching facilities at Schulzes Beach have had a positive affect on fishing opportunities at Lake Hindmarsh, Victoria’s largest freshwater lake.
The facilities had been in urgent need of repair after years of drought. The single lane boat ramp and car park at Schulzes Beach, on the western side of the lake, have both been resurfaced. It’s now much easier for anglers launching boats of all sizes.
The road to Schulzes Beach has also been upgraded, allowing year round access to the boat ramp in all weather. Lake Hindmarsh, near Jeparit, is 22km long and popular with anglers chasing yabbies, redfin, golden perch and freshwater catfish.
The resurfacing was undertaken with funding from Parks Victoria, Hindmarsh City Council and the Victorian Government’s Recreational Fishing Initiative, which aims to improve access and facilities, stock more fish, install fish cleaning tables, build recreational fishing reefs and strengthen fisheries compliance.
These improvements will benefit the 721,000 Victorians who fish annually and ensure that Lowan remains a top fishing DPI Victoria website
