The largest indoor boat show in the southern hemisphere, the Melbourne Boat Show ran 14-17 June at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, and by all accounts, it was a success in terms of numbers, sales and interest.
Steven Gill, General Manager Boating Industry Association of Victoria, said he had some 'very happy exhibitors', pleased with quality crowds.
'Numbers were down a little on last year, just shy of 28,000, which is reasonable. Losing a day in the program, we lost a day's worth of crowds. The weather was atrocious, which would have had an impact for sure. But exhibitors were saying that the people who came to the show were the keen buyers. A lot of interest was converted in to sales during the show, and many more leads post-show.'
The four-day event was short one day due to scheduling conflict by the venue.
Key to the event this year was a boosted entertainment program sponsored by TradeABoat magazine and the addition of a new area of destinations, with garnered very positive feedback. Tourism Display of the Year was won by Murray River Tourism, which reported excellent interest from visitors.
BIA Vic has scheduled the Melbourne Boat Show for 2014-16 as the weekend after the Queen's Birthday long weekend, with a preference for a five day event.
