Buying local is the theme of the 2013 Mackay Marine Festival with more home-grown exhibitors providing the very best in local sales and service than ever before.
Marine Queensland has announced the third Mackay Marine Festival incorporating the Mackay Tinnie and Tackle Show and Mackay Offshore Superboat Championships, on June 22nd and 23rd 2013.
Marine Queensland Events Manager Kiri Ngarotata said from the outset her team had taken onboard feedback from previous shows to create an event that met the expectations of both visitors and those involved in the marine industry in Mackay.
'We know Mackay loves its boats,'Ms Ngarotata said. 'This was evident after our inaugural event which elevated boat registrations by 300%. Outside of the Gold Coast - Mackay continues to hold the highest number of boats per resident in Queensland.
'The feedback was visitors wanted more boats on the water – so this event has more than ever before. Buyers also liked the confidence of dealing with a local – questions and queries arise after a purchase so it’s important they have somewhere local to go back to for after sales service. So we have a strong focus on local exhibitors. Even the Offshore Superboat races have added local flavour with two Mackay teams competing.
'We have also ticked the box of 'more family entertainment' with North Queensland Bulk Ports sponsoring a mega Kids Marine Zone with activities that range from yabbie pumping and cast netting to our redclaw tank and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Education activities.
'There will be fishing talks and demonstrations across the weekend by fishing magazine journalists, VMR representatives along with Brisbane’s Dave ‘Nugget’ Downie and special Marine Festival giveaways. All of this and it is still free.'
The 2013 event will feature products ranging from offshore fishing boats, tinnies, fibreglass boats, engines, PWC’s, marine electronics and accessories – in fact the most diverse product range on display to date.
'We continue to build on the amazing success of the first event in 2011, Ms Ngarotata said.
'Our figures of 12% boat ownership in the region makes this the highest in the state with 95% trailerable so this event continues to highlight just how popular boating is in the region.
'On-water boat shows allow boats to be seen in situ which just can’t be beaten. You can actually take the boat out and hear the engine roar in the water not just on the back of a trailer.
'Thousands of boaties turned out in force for the 2012 two day event at Mackay Marina.
'Our events team continues to conduct exit surveys and focus groups with latest figures showing more than 55% of people attending the festival were as families’ with more than half of those attending owning both a boat and a 4 wheel drive. Most said they came to see a new product. More than 70% of people surveyed said they used their boat mostly for fishing with the majority heading out on the water every month.
A staggering 95% gave the venue thumbs up with more than half of people staying longer than half a day.
Mackay Marina will again be the venue for the FREE family event.
The 2013 Mackay Marine Festival is proudly supported by North Queensland Bulk Ports, Mackay Marina, Events and Tourism Queensland, Mackay Regional Council, Australian Offshore Superboat Council and Construction and Diving Services.
