The Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIA) has sold out its exhibitor space for the 53rd Annual BIA Melbourne Boat Show, and is seeking additional display space to meet demand from exhibitors.

BIA general manager Steven Gill said exhibitor enthusiasm for the show had been overwhelming, with exhibitors booking early and booking big.

'We have nothing but a few small booths left available, and we know there are still some major exhibitors keen to take space,' he said. 'With that in mind, we are negotiating with the Melbourne Exhibition Centre to find us an additional 3,000 square metres to meet the demand.

'The cancellation of the Melbourne Motor Show has caused various events to be changed around at the MEC, and we hope to be the beneficiary of that.

'In a year when other industries are struggling, the boating industry is surging back, and we are working to accommodate everyone who wants to be at our show.'

Mr Gill said exhibitors interested taking up additional display space should get in quickly, as the hoped-for space would be allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis.

'There may even be a savvy car company that wants to be at a major show just two weeks before the motor show was due,' he said.

'Apart from the motor show itself, there are very few shows that go so close to filling the Exhibition Centre, let alone attracting some 40,000 visitors in just four days.'

Expressions of interest in the hoped-for extra display space should be made to Steven Gill by calling (03) 8696 5600 or emailing steven@biavic.com.au.

The 53rd Annual BIA Melbourne Boat Show runs from Friday 14 June to Monday 17 June at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. Opening hours are 10am to 9pm daily except Sunday, when the show closes at 7pm, and Monday when it closes at 8pm.
